How to Use the PLANOLY Splitter Tool
Note: This tool is currently available on MOBILE only for images.
- Select your images to upload onto the PLANOLY App on your phone. Tap ADD.
- Before you tap UPLOAD, you’ll see a grey square grid (SPLIT ICON) on the bottom right corner of the image (the icon to the left of the multi-post icon). Tap on SPLIT ICON to see 6 different splitting options.
PLANOLY PRO TIP: Before committing to a specific split style, we recommend experimenting with a few different options to test out the flow of your images. Make sure your images are hi-resolution too, so it doesn’t become pixelated after the split.
- Play around with the 6 splitting options to see which style you prefer by tapping on each!
- You can also move the image around slightly before splitting in order to get each tile perfect.
- Once you’ve found your perfect split, tap SPLIT on the bottom of your screen.
(NOTE: If your images are lower than our recommended image resolution, you will review a WARNING screen in case you’d like to adjust your imagery! Upload additional imagery or tap on OK, Don’t Remind Me Again, or Cancel.)
- Tap OK, and you’ll see a preview of your split grid images!
- Tap on UPLOAD and your split images will be moved to your Planoly grid where you can plan and schedule them out! Click on the arrows on the image below to walk through our easy tutorial slide.
- Tip 1: Make sure that each individual image within the split looks fab on its own. This could boost engagement on your images!
- Tip 2: Have fun, and add a quote or two some of the tiles if they’re bare or need a little sprucing up. If you’re using quotes, keep it on brand so that it resonates with your audience and speaks to them on a personal level.

How it works
- Load a photo from your camera roll into the pic splitting app
- Crop the square section you want to use in your Instagram feed
- Upload the files from bottom right to top left so that they appear in the correct order on your Instagram profile to create the mosaic effect
Tips for maintaining this effect
- Err on the side of caution if you want to keep this effect in tact! After you have an Instagrid image on your profile, you’ll need to upload your images in groups of three. Otherwise the images will become misaligned.
- Don’t use this effect too often—the individual images will still be visible and clog up your followers’ news feeds
